News Aloud FAQs
News Aloud is a Headine News radio station for textual news stories. It reads the headlines and first few sentences of the top stories within your selected news topics (Tech, Sports, Health, etc.), then repeats as the stories change throughout the day. It is part of VoiZapp's Aloud series of reading aloud apps that also includes Friends Aloud, Messages Aloud, Tweets Aloud, Read It Aloud, and (soon) Emails Aloud.
How does News Aloud work?
After first installation, News Aloud loads the top 3 stories of 11 standard news topics -- Top Stories, Near You, World, U.S., Business, Elections, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, and Health -- 33 stories in all. It reads aloud down the list of these stories, and when it reaches the bottom of the list, it refreshes the Topics with any new stories and starts over again at the top of the news. You can control the reading aloud using standard iOS music player controls located at the bottom of the screen. You may manually refresh the stories at any time by tapping the refresh button in the upper righthand corner.
Tap the little gear icon on the lower righthand corner of the main screen, and you will see a screen of sliders associated with each news topic. Each slider allows you to select the number of stories that are loaded for each topic, from 0 to 10 max. At the bottom of this Settings screen is a green plus button that enables you to set your own topics using any phrase -- tap it and type in "Internet" for instance, and top stories related to the Internet will be retrieved and read aloud under your new topic. Tap the red circle to delete any new topic that you no longer want to download stories about.
You may also double-tap any story to pop up a window that displays the entire story in a web view. Tap Done to continue reading aloud with the next story.
How long will News Aloud keep reading articles aloud?
If kept in the foreground, it will read aloud for as long as your battery lasts. You can, of course, skip stories you're not interested in hearing, or repeat stories that have already been read aloud, or tap on any story out of sequence to begin reading aloud from there on down the list. News Aloud will also continue reading aloud when in the background, thereby allowing to you use your iOS device for other purposes. But it will not refresh the list of stories while in the background due to a limitation of Apple's iOS implementation of multitasking.
Please report any problems or make suggestions by emailing support@voizapp.com. Your feedback will make News Aloud even better!
